Class trip to the Houses of Parliament helps kids discover the law of the land
Our class were invited to go and visit the Houses of Parliament. This was to expand our knowledge about citizenship and how laws are made in the country.

Everyone was extremely excited to be in the Houses of Parliament. We had to go through a very important security check. Then we were greeted by two very polite ladies, who were going to guide us through the Houses of Parliament.
Our tour began with a stop at the House of Commons. The room was filled with green leather benches for only the MPs to sit on. There was also an area for the press and members of the public to observe debates. As soon as we were out of the House of Commons it was straight to the House of Lords.
Once we were in there, everyone put their hands to their mouths in shock as they noticed the Queen’s throne. Nobody had realised that the House of Lords was filled with ruby red and glowing gold, unlike the House of Commons.
The two ladies explained that the room is used for checking through the bill and if they have a few changes they will send it back. This practice is called “ping pong”.
As we walked out of the glorious House of Lords, we passed a special statue of the mighty Winston Churchill, former prime minister. We realised that his foot was a completely different colour to the rest of his body and found out that so many MPs had rubbed his foot that the colour had worn away. Now the MPs have been banned from touching his foot!
After a long day, everyone was very tired but satisfied. Everybody had a fantastic experience that will never be forgotten.
