Cher Lloyd stands up to online bullies

X Factor star Cher Lloyd has been talking about being bullied online.

The teenager has been the target of online bullies since she became a pop star. She says it has been worse than the bullying she had as a child at school, when kids teased her about her gypsy background.

Cher says she didn’t talk to anyone about it because she thought she could handle it on her own, but said: “I think that’s the worst thing you could possibly do.”

Cher has begun speaking about her troubles because a charity called Beatbullying says it’s a big problem, with one in 13 young people being the victims of cyberbullies.

Cyberbullying is when bullies use the web, mobile phones or any other technology to threaten, attack or embarrass other people.

After becoming famous, anonymous bullies on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube started to send Cher horrible messages. Someone even threatened to kill her mother.

She says: “My Facebook page exceeded the amount of friends you could have. It was excitement for me. I was just clicking ‘confirm’ because I couldn’t believe how many people wanted to be my friend.” But they weren’t friends at all. Now Cher has deleted her Facebook page.

Cher says: “It’s a constant worry for me. I’m frightened all the time.”

Although she is still scared of what people say about her, Cher feels ready to help others who suffer at the hands of faceless bullies – by speaking out about it.

    That's so sad, Cher shouldn't have been bullied, just because she's a pop star, she seems like a really nice person! And I think cyber bullying is very wrong, who would be so cold-hearted?

    i definatley agree with sambarose2. I also read in firstnews today that people bulied her because of her gipsy background, which is awful. I know a gipsy, and she is bullied quite a lot too, but I stand up for her because I belelive people shouldnt be bullied because of where they come from.

    That's so sad,she's even famous and I bet that she's the only pop star that's been bullied,but I'm glad that she stood up for herself.I feel so sad for her but I say to the bullies stop otherwise all the people you bullied will bully you so watch out.Or I would say just stop otherwise people would now your a bully so the wont want to be your friend, so that's what I would say!Plus it doesn't matter if you have a gypsy background or you have a friend that's a gypsy,were all the same! That's what I think and I think everybody should think that!!!

    That's terrible! Nobody should ever be bullied just because they come from a different background to most people. We're all humans, aren't we? Everyone's the same on the inside! Bullies and cyber bullies are just horrible, sick people.

    I feel differently about this story to how I normally do about bully victims who are celebrities. Pretty much EVERY celebrity says they were bullied as a child. With many it probably isn't true and is a bid for the limelight, but I can tell it would happen to Cher because she's different, and I'm sure if we went to school with her before she was famous we would all think she was weird. We might not bully her but we might think she's strange. I'm glad that, unlike many other celebs, she is telling the truth and is actually doing something about it. :)

    Good on you Cher, I used to be bullied at school, so I know what that is like even if I didn't have to deal with the cyber aspect. I think it is wonderful what you are doing and I want to say good luck.

    What kind of world has this become? People treat others as if they are different. Why can't they accept that we're all the same? Since 1999 suicide rates have gone up by 60%. I wish the world can be a happy place, where everyone is the same as others. xx

    i'm a big fan of cher lloyd and i dont think it's fair that people bully her it's just sad and wrong and who evers doing it has stop because it can really hurt people and i'm proud that cher is trying to help others who are being treated like she is/was :) xxx

    Cher Lloyd is my friends cousin and I have met Cher multiple times. She is a lovely person and i dont blame her for standing up to all these bullies. She shouldnt be getting threathened; no one should. She didn't become famous to be bullied, she became famous to show us her talent. Keep going Cher we are all behind you and so are your family. xx

    Cyber bullying is a horrible thing to do and is actually against the law! It doesn't matter where you come from we should all be treated equally!

    schools need to teach more about standing up to the bully. The school could potentialy have them expelled. If the case is to serious they may even be locked up in a youth jail.

    Thats really sad, why would someone want to insult her like that???Its terrible when people are insulted for being different,Ive been there!!!And dont you think its a stupid idea to insult a CELEB?!?Wouldnt that make you, like,the most unpopular person in school??     No-one deserves to be bullied, regardless of their race, culture or character. I'm glad that Cher is doing something about her problems and helping others too, however, my opinion of her still hasn't changed. Just recently, she said on the radio that her ex mentor, Cheryl Cole, isn't a great singer and she would only duet with her if Cheryl could sing live, hence, implying that Cheryl relies heavily on autotune, which may be true, but why mention it in such a mean manner? I understand that no-one asks or deserves to be bullied but if Cher wants people to take her seriously she shouldn't kick them down and be rude.

    we're all the same, regardless of what we look like, sound like, wear etc. and even if Cher had a gypsy background, so what? gypsies are really awesome! so back off, whoever was bullying Cher, cuz she's a great singer and ur just jealous that u cant sing as well as she can! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
