Card for Mum
14 year-old Gabi wanted to show her mum how special she was this Mother's Day.
My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, three days before her 50th birthday. It was a shock to the family but we all pulled together and we were determined to support her as much as we could.
Mum had an operation the day my older sister, Emily, received her GCSE results. Mum has had another operation since then and because the cancer is quite aggressive she is also having chemotherapy.
My sister, Emily, and I decided we’d raise money for the charity that is helping Mum recover, by holding a pink-themed fashion show fundraiser at school. We raised £4,000 and donated it to Breast Cancer Campaign.
We also decided we’d enter a competition for Mother’s Day run by Hallmark Cards. The competition was looking for the best picture that represents motherhood, and is raising money for breast cancer too.
I’ve entered a picture of me, my sisters and my mum. If we win the competition our photo will be on a card this Mother’s Day and will always remind Mum just how much we all love her!
