Bionic dog given new legs
“Walkies” is an exciting word again for this dog thanks to his new bionic legs which let him run along with his friends again.
Naki’o had all four of his paws removed when he got frostbite after he was left in a frozen puddle when he was just a puppy.
It looked like he may never run in parks again, until vet, Christie Tomlinson, saw him at a Colorado rescue centre.
She was there looking for a playmate for her golden retriever, but once she saw Naki’o she couldn’t leave him.
“I’ve always had a soft spot for animals with problems. I knew I had the skills and knowledge to be able to take care of him properly,” says Christie.
At first Naki’o was light enough to hold himself up on his stumps and he didn’t seem too bothered by not having his paws.
But, as he grew and got heavier, it hurt too much to walk on his stumps so he pulled himself along on his tummy.
Christie started taking Naki’o out in a pram to make sure that he didn’t feel lonely inside.
But, after finding Orthopets, who make devices for animals, they said they could help him and made him some new legs.
Christie says Naki’o is like a young puppy racing around.
“He can now not only chase after a ball with other dogs, but he can beat them to the catch!” she says happily.
