Bilbo the life-saving dog *video*

Bilbo, the lifeguard dog, has been given a Pet Hero award for keeping swimmers safe in the sea.

First News first told you about Bilbo way back in 2006 and since then he’s become even more famous.

Bilbo works with his trainer and owner, Steve Jamieson, on Sennen Beach in Cornwall. As well as patrolling the seafront Bilbo also stars in a book and a film, and even has his own website, www.bilbosays.com. In his DVD Bilbo warns children of the dangers of playing by the sea.

Because of Bilbo’s work fewer swimmers have swum in to trouble and needed rescuing.

The Boomerang Local Pet Hero award was presented to Bilbo by TV presenter Michaela Strachan at Boomerang’s Pet Personality of the Year Party in London Regent’s Park.

Bilbo’s owner, Steve Jamieson, said: “I’m so happy for Bilbo. He’s a brilliant animal and one of the best lifeguards I’ve ever worked with. This award goes to show just how important he is to the people around here. If he could talk, I’m sure he’d tell you how much this award means to him!”
