Bermuda honours singer John Lennon

A sculpture and a concert are being launched this summer in a tribute to John Lennon, a member of the famous band the Beatles, to celebrate his links to Bermuda.

The John Lennon sculpture will be unveiled by artist Graham Foster at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art in June.

A tribute concert and an art exhibition will be held in the same month.

John Lennon was a member of a famous band from Liverpool called The Beatles.

The sculpture and concert are being launched because Bermuda was very important to him; he sailed to the island in the summer of 1980 to write songs for his album. He had writer's block for five years before he went to Bermuda and hadn't written a single song.

Bermuda inspired him so much that he wrote lots of songs and was able to record an album. He later called his album Double Fantasy after one of Bermuda's flowers.

The album was released in November 1980. Less than a month later, Lennon was shot to death by a deranged fan.
