Earlier this summer, SeaWorld San Diego, welcomed a baby beluga whale to the park's Wild Arctic exhibit and now nearly two months on the female calf is doing well and bonding with a "surrogate" mum.

Following the birth, the mother Ruby, did not bond or show interest in the calf resulting in SeaWorld's experienced team having to step in and hand-raise the little lady. The calf is being tube fed round the clock by her handlers with a specially developed baby whale milk formula. If this had happened in the wild the calf would not have survived.

The female calf, who is yet to be named, was last week introduced to Allua, a 26 year old female beluga, and the two quickly bonded.

After gaining a healthy 43 pounds over the past couple of months and having now been taken under the flipper of her "surrogate" mum, SeaWorld staff are pleased at how well the calf is doing.
