Chelsea defender Ashley Cole is to be investigated by police, after shooting a student with an air rifle.

Cole reportedly took the powerful .22 rifle into a dressing room at the club’s training ground in Cobham. Apparently not realising that the rifle was loaded, he pointed it at Tom Cowan, a university student on a year’s placement, and it went off, hitting Cowan in the side.

Cowan received treatment from the club’s medical staff, but his father is said to be furious and wants to know what action Chelsea will take against Cole.
