Arsenal celebrate as Chelsea suffer defeat

Both Arsenal and Chelsea competed in the last group stage of this year’s Champions League competition last night. Both teams successfully made it through to the knockout stages, but the transition was not an easy one.

Arsenal competed against Serbian side, Partizan Belgrade, in a 3-1 win. Goals from Walcott, Nasri and a penalty by Van Persie sealed qualification for the team, but in the end they only finished second in Group H with twelve points. Arsenal could now face some of the top elite teams in the knockout stages of the competition.

Chelsea on the other hand, lost 1-0 to the French League Champions, Olmpique de Marseille. After a lacklustre performances in the Premier League, Chelsea manager, Carlo Ancelotti, urged his team to deliver a stronger performance in Marseille. However that was not to be the case as Olmpique de Marseille striker Brandão tapped in a deflected shot in the 81st minute to seal the win for his team. Chelsea still finish top of Group F but with only one win from six league games and sees them move from third in the Premier League; a somewhat disappointing month for the West London team.

With Manchester Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur qualifying for the next stage of the competition, all eyes are now on 17th December 2010, where the draw will be made to see who all the British teams will play in the knockout stage.
