Animal-rights activists protest against Spanish bull festival

Animal-rights activists staged a protest in the central Spanish town of Tordesillas two days before the 'Toro de la Vega festival.'

Spanish animal-rights activists protested against the Toro de la Vega festival in Spain, calling it 'cruel'.

During the festival a bull is driven through the streets and accross a bridge to a plain surrounded by trees called the 'Vega'.

A group of men, some on horseback, wait for the bull at the Vega before trying to lance him with spears. Whoever kills the bull is allowed to cut a trophy from him and wear it on his spear. The killing of the bull is to honour the 'Virgen de la Pena'.

While some people call the festival cruel, other people argue that it is part of Spanish culture: the festival is one of the oldest in Spain with roots dating back to the fifteenth century.

Thats Horrible! It may well be tradition but that doesn't justify killing a bull! What has it ever done to you?
