Angela Madigan from Dogs Trust visited our school with her pug dogs, Sebastian and Sally! We learnt lots about how to be a responsible dog owner.

Angela showed us all the things you need to keep your dog happy and healthy like a lead, collar and tag, and told us all about vaccinations. We talked about choosing the right dog for your family.

Angela showed us how a microchip is put under a dog’s skin. This helps to identify who the owner is if the dog gets lost.

Dogs Trust will give a home to dogs when their owners can’t look after them anymore. They never put a healthy dog down and will take care of them at the centres or in foster homes.

We are giving our support to the Dogs Trust campaign during ‘Poop Scoop’ week. Mrs Jones signed us up and we got some free poop bags. We learnt about the diseases you can get when you stand in dog poop and how important it is to clean it up. Angela showed us how to pick the poop up safely using a poop bag and to make sure we put it in a bin. It was so funny because most of the children thought the poop was real, but it was only one from a joke shop!

Sebastian and Sally were very well behaved! While Angela spoke to us they sat on Mrs Jones’ knee. Sally was a bit cheeky because every time Mrs Jones stopped stroking her she tapped her hand until she started again! We love Sebastian and Sally and hope Angela will come and see us again soon!

Words by the pupils from St Patrick's school, Liverpool
