American city want to force pet owners to spay and neuter their animals
A city in America is considering introducing a new law to force all pet owners to spay and neuter their animals.
There are currently 10,000 stray cats and dogs in St. Louis. So many that the local shelters and rescue centres can't help them all.
Officials want to introduce a law forcing all pet owners to spay, neuter and microchip their pets.
If they refuse, they would get a $100 (about £65) fine. This fine would be cancelled if they spayed or neutered their animal within 60 days.
If anyone wanted to breed their pets they would have to apply for a 'hobby breeder' licence.
Stray animals are a big problem in St. Louis; in 2001 a 10-year-old boy was attacked and killed by a park of stray dogs in a public park.

I actually do agree. It is unfair on stray cats and dogs that they have to live in the harsh environment when they were bred for household or the wild. Cats should get microchipped (to avpid choking) and dogs can get a collar or microchip. It is only fair.

i agree dog should have collor microchip and it is not fair is you get a dog then dump it when it COULD have been adopted and loved in a warm bed (dog bed)

I don't!! Its Stupid!!!!! Yeah one boy was killed, ONE boy, its the owners fault that the dog killed him, the trainer should have trained it properly to stay calm and be good!!!!! Plus if you were stopped from breeding animals then there would hardly be any at all left!!!!! Totally cruel!!

If ur saying that cats should get microchipped and dogs should get collars, why won't dogs get strangled compared to cats getting strangled. Whats the difference, its just as easy to have a dog strangled as it is to a cat strangled!!!
