16-year-old invents new app

16-year-old Nick D’Aloisio has invented an app that was picked up as an App of the Week on iTunes.

Now Nick’s app, Summly, has been noticed by technology investor, Li Ka-Shing, one of the world’s richest men. The teenager, from King’s College School in Wimbledon, has delayed his mock GCSEs to fly to California to meet investors and customers.

The app, which has been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times, can condense long web pages into text bullet points that can be read easily.

Nick says: “Getting Apple’s backing has been amazing. Six months ago when I was fine-tuning the idea I knew it had potential but the speed with which things have taken off has surprised me.”

Now Nick hopes to become a millionaire.
