I camped outside for one year to raise money for charity

I am 13-years-old and joined the 1st Sheet Scout Group as a Beaver when I was six. I have decided to camp outside for a year to raise money for a new Scout hut in Sheet. Here’s how I am getting on.

Last September, I reached 210 nights and my Scout Group presented me with a really warm sleeping bag for the colder nights ahead. I also have a camp bed for those very cold nights!

Everyone at Scouts is very supportive. They really are all keeping me going. I am determined to make it to a full year, as I don’t want to let them down.

Last night it went down below freezing and I didn’t feel cold at all. When I woke up there was frost on my tent! It’s now getting lighter in the mornings and at night. I hope I get up in time for school. So far I have been lucky, because there hasn’t been much rain.

I’m so enjoying waking up every morning outside in the fresh air. A little while ago I moved my tent up onto our farm and spent a few nights up there. It was cold but still great fun!

Recently the Petersfield Post put in a little article about my camping out. It was only small, but a lot of people saw it and donated to the Scout hut charity. The customers at our farm shop have been so generous donating money, and so have parents of Scouts, friends, relatives and well-wishers.

After my 250th night, I had a really exciting afternoon when Simon Parkin (the weather man from ITV) came out to visit me. They filmed me in my tent and also filmed the Sheet Scout hut.

Simon said that they would come back and film me again in March when I reach a year. I’ll let you know how I get on.

I would NEVER camp outside for a year. It sounds uncomfortable, but fun too! GOOD FOR YOU ;) B)

If u go onto www.freerice.com u answer questions and for ever question u get right ten grains of rice is given to charity and if u go onto www. thehungersite.ie u can give food to charity as well. Also if u skydive (log onto skydive4charity.ie) u can raise over £500/€500 4 charity (I'll be strapped to a professional skydiver so no worries!). Loads of other stuff u can do which r easier than camping 4 a year!! Hahaha!
