11 smuggled chicks hatch from eggs
11 of the 14 smuggled peregrine falcon eggs survived their smuggling attempt and have been hatched
Yesterday we told you about the ex-soldier arrested for trying to smuggle 14 peregrine falcon eggs to Dubai to sell for £70,000. Today we can reveal that 11 of those eggs hatched and grew into chicks!
The 11 chicks were raised in a secret location and set free in Scotland where it is hoped that they will breed.
There are only 1,400 breeding pairs of peregrine falcons left in the wild and it is estimated that a female peregrine falcon is worth £1,500 (males sell for £600) on the black market..
