Compensation Pupil

10 pupils a week get injury compensation

As many as 10 children every week are paid compensation for injuries sustained at school.

It has been revealed that as much as £2.25m in injury compensation was awarded to school children last year. The new compensation culture has led many to believe that it is ruining children's education, as some school authorities don't bother to organise school trips and other activities in fear of the threat of injury lawsuits.

It was revealed in a survey of local education authorities in England that 400 claims were successful. In one case a pupil was paid £29,000 by the local authority after sitting on a radiator and suffering burns.

In many cases, even if there has been an attempt to prevent injuries the pupil still wins compensation.

It is argued that the money and time spent on these cases could be better spent on helping the community as whole, rather than individuals.
