We feared homework

Hello my name is Liz and my son, Alfie has dyslexia. Alfie and I were always best buddies. We did all the things mums and children do, nothing special but everything very precious at the same time. He couldn’t wait to start school, and I was excited for him too. He seemed to settle into school life well but at the first parents’ evening his reception class teacher mentioned that he was struggling with letter blends and wasn’t very organised. At the time I put it down to it being early days, I knew he was a clever bright boy. I had no idea that these were the first clues that he was dyslexic.

When my son, Haley, was nine years old, he was having a terrible time in school. He would cry when the teacher asked him to read. He would even crawl under the table and hide to avoid doing his homework.
