THE Government wants to know whether the right things are being done to help children who struggle at school.
It’s an area that First News has been highlighting with our My Way! campaign. My Way! aims to raise awareness of the fact that one in five children have some sort of learning challenge. This means they might learn in a different way and need extra support or to be taught in a different way. The My Way! campaign shows kids that how you learn is just as important as what you learn.
Now the Government has launched a Green Paper and wants to find out what people think. A Green Paper can be the first step in changing the law. It shows the Government is thinking about making changes.
Children’s Minister, Sarah Teather, is calling on parents, charities, teachers and local authorities to have their say. She wants to improve the system for children with SEN (Special Educational Needs) including school choice, spotting earlier if children are struggling, funding and family support.
She said: “I want people to come forward with the changes they think are needed to make the system better for children with SEN and their families.”
You’ve got until 15 October to say what you think about your schooling, and for your parents and teachers to have their say. Just go to www.education.gov.uk/consultations.
