Penguin found on New Zealand beach

An emperor penguin from the Antarctic has washed up miles away on North Island, in New Zealand.

The emperor penguin was spotted wandering along the shore, shocking local residents.

It is thought that the penguin had been searching for food somewhere in the Antarctic, had gotten lost and ended up getting washed up on the New Zealand island.

It is not certain how far the penguin travelled on his epic journey, but it was at least 2,000 miles, as that is the shortest distance between the Antarctic and North Island.

Although the large penguin is being looked after, on arrival in New Zealand, he would have been thirsty, hot and would have thought that the sand he was walking on was snow.
