Yunusu lives in Tanzania. He is partially blind. Read his story…
Name: Yunusu Mpanye Age: 13 Lives: Iringa, Tanzania
Yunusu can’t see very well and used to find it hard to get around. His family and friends would have to help him and he also struggled at school. Thanks to the help of Sightsavers, he is now more independent and is learning to read and write using Braille.
Yunusu says: “English is my favourite subject and, in my breaks, I enjoy playing games with my friends – football is my favourite!”
Yunusu plays football using a ball with a bell inside. This means he can follow the sound the ball makes when playing with his team mates.
“I think that studying can help me have a better future and I want to become a teacher when I grow up. Next year I will be studying alongside sighted pupils, which I am looking forward to!”
There are millions of children in the world who are missing out on education because they are blind or who could be helped to see again. Sightsavers is working hard to find these children and help them.
