The world's top 3000 companies cause $2.2 trillion worth of damage to the environment
A report carried out by the United Nations has calculated that the cost of damage the world's top companies do to the environment is $2.2 trillion.
The worst of the damage is caused by the firms emiting greenhouse gases (the gases which are responsible for causing global warming).
Other major costs came from pollution to freshwater rivers and energy waste.
The report also discovered that if the firms were made to pay for their damages, they would lose a third of their profits each year.
