Science picture of the day – UFO?

This strange hunk of metal certainly looks like a UFO, but what is it?

Well, it's actually the top of an experimental vacuum tank at the Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, USA. 

The three technicians had been cleaning the tank, and were wearing protective suits to shield themselves from harmful mercury.

The picture was taken in January 1961, and is just one of thousands of fascinating pictures in NASA's huge archives.
