School wins top green award
by Siobhan, 9 and Georgia, 7
When our head teacher entered us into Teachers TV ‘How Green is Your School’ competition, we never thought we would win the £1,000 prize! We are so proud of all the work we are doing at St Edmunds Campion Catholic Primary School. At our school we grow vegetables all year, harvesting leeks, potatoes, carrots and beetroot. We sell our produce after school for one pound per bag which we really enjoy. The money raised, we put towards our eco budget.
Each class has an ‘eco-doorway’, which we learn about throughout the year. We have eight doorways including energy, water and waste and the school grounds among others. They are really fun to investigate.
Our school eco-group also goes to conferences to show other schools what we have done. Each year we do an eco-performance to help others be aware of global warming. This year we are doing one about the Amazon rainforest and deforestation, which should be a lot of fun!
