LIBERTY ANSTEAD

Reading Champions

Everyone knows a Reading Champion – they’re people who inspire others to get reading. Each week one of our champions tells you a bit about their favourite reads and what they think makes reading so appealing.

Name: Liberty Anstead

Liberty is a member of the Spinebreakers crew. She loves reading, and attending events recommended by Spinebreakers.

Favourite reads: “Between Two Seas and The Lady in the Tower both by Marie-Louise Jensen – these books inspired me to start writing some of my own creations. And Witch Child by Celia Rees – inspirational!

Liberty says: “I like reading because, by reading, I can live in two worlds at once. When my life maybe isn’t going so well, or I feel down, I can just open my book and – ta-da! – I’m in another world and all my troubles are forgotten! Reading is important as it exercises our imagination. Also, as I said, it can be a chance to escape from reality. You can visit so many worlds without even going outside your doorstep!

“To someone who doesn’t like reading I would say that they’re missing out on fantastic creations. They need to persevere to find their passion for reading. Maybe they could attend an author interview to inspire them.

“Being a member of Spinebreakers has allowed me to meet other people who share a passion for reading, and converse. It is great to see and take in others’ views. Also, if people are making comments about your passion for reading (like calling you a “nerd”), it is so nice to find people who relate to you, and care. Spinebreakers allows you to be who you want – a reader, writer, singer, poet – anything. It gives you a chance. Why don’t you express yourself at www.spinebreakers.co.uk too?”
