In February I was lucky enough to be one of 22 children who met Members of Parliament to present our Green Manifesto that we had developed over three workshops.

The Manifesto has six ideas about a greener future: more recycling bins in public places, greening the school curriculum, banning standby buttons, carbon reduction targets and renewable energy  in schools, and encouragement for businesses to recycle.

First we met Ed Milliband, Minister for Energy and Climate Change (this was my favourite part of the day). We talked to him for about an hour, until he had to attend a cabinet meeting in Downing Street. Before he went we persuaded him to put one of our ideas into the Labour Party’s Manifesto.

At the Houses of Parliament we launched our manifesto at a reception where MPs and journalists came flooding in. Some of them stopped and talked, some just looked at the stands where our ideas were presented.

Unfortunately, after speeches, photo shoots and a lot more talking, it was time to go home.

It was a great day and we are excited to think that our ideas about a greener future might be taken up by the people who can really make changes happen.

Do you have a green manifesto?!

Post your green hints and tips below.

(My favourite one is make sure your mobile phone charger is switched off when you're not using it. If you leave it on, it uses almost the same amount of energy as it does when it's charging. Eek!)
