My school was recently awarded the Green Flag Eco-Schools Award. By Lauren, 10

There were nine topics that we had to cover to win the award including energy, global perspectives, healthy living, litter, school grounds, transport and waste.

Here are some of the things that we did that helped us to win the award:

We received a grant to install some water butts around the school. We now use the rain water collected to keep the school garden and plants healthy. All the classrooms have recycling bins and, at lunchtime, the Eco Warriors go around the school and make sure that all the lights, computers and smart boards are turned off.

We have a fruit compost bin in the playground for all our break time fruit remains. We also took part in the local community tidy up, helping to collect litter and recycle it properly. All these small things build up to make a huge difference.
