Matsautso used to be blind. Read his story…
Name: Matsautso Mwanza Age: 13 Lives: Lusaka, Zambia
Matsautso damaged his eye when a CD broke, sending a shard into his eye, blinding him immediately. He developed cataract following his accident, which is where the lens of the eye becomes cloudy and can stop you from seeing.
After his accident, Matsautso had to miss school and his mother had to take care of him, which meant that she couldn’t work.
Following an operation on his eye, thanks to Sightsavers, Matsautso’s eyesight is fully restored. His lens was replaced with a clear plastic one
and he can once again go to school, play with his friends and help his mother at home.
Matasautso says: “My favourite subjects at school are football, chess and drama. I want to be an accountant at Finance Bank when I grow up so I can keep everyone’s money safe.”
There are millions of children in the world who are missing out on education because they are blind, or who could be helped to see again. Sightsavers is working hard to find these children and help them. You
