KIDS’ WORLD: Fabiha

Name: Fabiha Age: 9  Lives: Karachi, Pakistan

About a year ago, Fabiha started having problems seeing the whiteboard at school. She also got a headache when she was reading and couldn’t see the TV at home very well.

Her dad took her to hospital and the eye doctor said that all she needed was a pair of glasses.
Fabiha wasn’t sure about getting glasses. She said: “I was hoping I could just use some eye drops and not have to wear glasses. I wasn’t sure I wanted to wear glasses as I felt a bit shy.”
She went to school with her new glasses on and some other children started calling her names, which made her feel sad. Fabiha said: “It made me feel bad and I had no confidence. I didn’t know what to say.”
Fabiha is now getting used to her glasses and doing really well at school. Sightsavers is working with the local community to persuade people to be more accepting when people have problems with their eyesight so that children like Fabiha don’t get called names or get left out.
