Go green and recycle your old toys at a charity shop
There are loads of ways you can help charities and other people while also helping the planet.
You may not want some of your clothes, books, toys or musical instruments any more but, if they are in good enough condition to be used by someone else, there are lots of places that would love to take them off your hands:
Charity shops can make use of good quality items by selling them. Drop a bag off with your local shop and, while you’re there, you might find yourself a new book or toy at a bargain price.
If there’s a particular charity that you would like to support you could ask an adult to list your stuff on the website www.jumbleaid.com. ‘Gifters’ list their item with the charity they want to support, and the amount they want to raise. The ‘seeker’ then pays the amount, gets the item and the charity gets the money.
You could also ask your local doctor’s surgery or children’s hospital ward if they’d like toys or books for their waiting rooms or ward area.
If your computer or mobile phone is broken, or you fancy an upgrade, other people can benefit from your unwanted gadget. Several charities can make money from your mobile phone.
Check their websites for information. There also companies, such as www.computersforcharities.co.uk who can refurbish old computers so that people in the UK and abroad can make use of them.
Giving your unwanted things to charity means that someone else will benefit from the item itself or the money it raises. Plus, it keeps it out of landfill, and you get to feel good about your actions!
