First News interviews The Jonas Brothers!

To celebrate the launch of Camp Rock 2 First News quizzed the Jonas Brothers...

What can you tell us about your new movie?

JOE JONAS: Camp Rock 2 is a Disney Channel movie filled with great music and amazing dance numbers.

KEVIN JONAS: The story takes place a year after the first movie when the gang returns to Camp Rock to discover a rival, state-of-the-art music camp called Camp Star has opened up across the lake. It’s lured away many of the Camp Rock campers and instructors, which throws the original music camp into jeopardy. Can Camp Rock survive the competition?

How does the sequel compare to the original movie?

NICK JONAS: There was a lot of singing and dancing in the first movie, but everything is bigger and better in Camp Rock 2. This movie is more of a musical where the music tells the story, which is different to the first movie.

KEVIN JONAS: The sequel is also different because Nick and I have much bigger roles. We weren’t on screen too often in the first film, but our roles were expanded for the sequel.

How were your roles expanded?

NICK JONAS: The fun part about my storyline in Camp Rock 2 is that there’s a Romeo And Juliet vibe to it. My character, Nate, has a crush on a girl across the lake. She’s the daughter of the head of Camp Star, so Nate has to sneak over to see her. It’s a forbidden romance with a cute story – and the songs that go along with this theme really stand out. It’s really cool.

KEVIN JONAS: And my character is put in charge of a group of Junior Rockers, leading to a lot of fun and jokes. The Junior Rockers are the youngsters at Camp Rock, so he has to take them all under his wing.

How does it feel to have so many fans around the world?

JOE JONAS: It’s awesome, but we’re extremely grateful and we feel very lucky.

NICK JONAS: You know what? It’s amazing to think how far we’ve come. We had 50 or 60 fans show up to a Thanksgiving Day Parade we attended a number of years ago. Now there are 15-20,000 people showing up to similar events. It’s crazy and amazing.

Do you remember the first time you felt famous?

NICK JONAS: I think the first moment we realised we were doing something good was when we did a show in Texas right before we went on tour with Miley Cyrus. It was an event called the Texas State Fair and 50,000 people showed up – and we’d never had that many people turn up to a show before. We’d just finished filming the first Camp Rock and we weren’t expecting anything like that.

KEVIN JONAS: We didn’t realize a crowd like that was possible.

NICK JONAS: We had to look at each other and say, “Could this be what it’s like from now on?” Then we did the tour with Miley and things started to really roll. It’s been amazing ever since.

What are the perks of fame?

JOE JONAS: We’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing people and we’ve performed duets on stage with musical heroes like Stevie Wonder. Times like that are hard to beat. It’s also been amazing to meet some of the people we’ve encountered along the way.

KEVIN JONAS: I got to meet Dave Grohl and hang out with the guys from Coldplay at The Grammys, which was incredible.

NICK JONAS: I remember that day well. We were sitting in a room where we saw Prince stand up and then Paul McCartney walked past. You think to yourself, ‘What am I doing here?’

Do you feel pressure to behave yourself and act like a role model to the younger generation?

NICK JONAS: I don’t think we see it as pressure. I think it’s a good thing. We’ve been raised in a good family with lots of morals and that’s important to us. We just try to be the best guys we can be – and to make our mum proud.

KEVIN JONAS: We have a great family who support us and keep our feet on the ground. It’s important to remember where you came from and we’re constantly reminded of that. We’re not perfect, but we do our best every day because we know we are role models and it’s important to stay true to who we are.

Who are your inspirations?

KEVIN JONAS: We try to pull inspiration from everything around us including new places and new friends. We enjoy making music and this movie really portrays the passion we have for music. There’s one other inspiration, too. We've seen all of The Beatles' movies and they are a huge inspiration to us. Music is where our original passion lies, just like The Beatles. It’s in our heart – and to combine that with acting is very exciting.

Will you continue to act?

KEVIN JONAS: We definitely want to keep on acting, but we are also excited to get back on the road with our music again, too. It's been a little while since we've toured and we're definitely ready for that immediate response again.

JOE JONAS: It will be great to see the fans again and to sing our hearts out. Bring it on!

Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam premieres on Disney Channel on Friday 17th September at 6.30pm. The DVD is out on Monday 20th September. The soundtrack is out now
