First News interviews Selena Gomez
In our Selena Gomez interview, we chatted to Selena about shooting Wizards Of Waverly Place and surviving life in the spotlight…
How’s life, Selena?
Life is great, thanks! I’ve been incredibly busy working on my music and movies, as well as Wizards Of Waverly Place.
How does it feel to have shot the final scenes on Wizards?
Ending the show was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. I love everybody involved with Wizards. I love everybody in the cast and everybody in the crew. They all helped me grow up and become the person I am today. I’m really going to miss that safety net.
What do you think of the upcoming finale episode, Who Will Be The Family Wizard?
I was very surprised at the ending, but I liked the fact that I was surprised. They didn’t tell me anything about who was going to become the family wizard until the final day of shooting, so it was completely unexpected – but I think our fans will be very happy with the result. It’s really cool.
What do you prefer: working on TV or movies?
I don’t know if I can choose between the two because they are very different. Working on Wizards Of Waverly Place has been an amazing experience and I will always remember the fun times we had shooting in front of a live studio audience. We’d perform every week and I really enjoyed it. It became easy and I was very comfortable with the show – but it’s completely different when you work on a movie.
Why is it different to work on a movie?
For starters, there’s no live audience. The hours are much longer, so it can be tiring – but you get the opportunity to work in beautiful locations and meet awesome people. Both are a lot of fun.
Do you feel a lot of pressure in the spotlight?
There is a lot of pressure, but everyone faces pressure in their life. There are other people my age trying to deal with college and figuring out who they are. Others face pressure to buy their own house, which is also stressful. I just face a different type of pressure.
Do you get sent lots of free clothes because you’re famous?
If I’m going to a premiere or a big party, designers will lend me a dress to wear for the night – but I’ll have to return it. I don’t get to keep everything I wear. When it comes to everyday clothes, I get sent T-shirts and things like that, but I still like shopping for my own outfits. I like to be able to pick and choose what I wear.
Do you struggle to keep your private life private?
I feel like I give a lot of myself to my fans, but I also keep a lot of things to myself. There are certain parts of my life that should be just for me and nobody else.
Do you worry about the paparazzi if you head outside without any make-up?
No, I never care about the paparazzi. I never think of them in any spectrum of my life because I don’t care what I look like. I’m happy on the inside and that’s all that matters.
Where’s the worst place you’ve ever been confronted by the paparazzi? Do they hide in your bins or anything like that?
No, they don’t hide in my trash. Well, I don’t think they do! They are on vacation with me, they sit outside my house… They are always around. To be honest, I don’t respect what they do. I understand what they are doing and I get it, but I don’t really like them.
