First News interviews Perry Eggleton (star of Will)

Perry Eggleton is the star of the brilliant new football and coming-of-age film, Will. We caught up with him to find out more…

Can you tell us what Will is about?

Will is about a young boy who is a fanatical Liverpool football fan. He runs away from school after the death of his father, with two tickets to the Champions League final in Istanbul. The film is about his journey across Europe and the people that help him achieve his dream.

Tell us about your character, Will. What’s he like?

He is a very strong, outgoing and independent boy who never gives up. He has real passion for what he believes in and is true to himself and others.

Are you similar to him in any way?

I think Will and I are very similar people in that we are both very independent and outgoing.

Are you a big football fan and, if so, what team do you support?

Since the film I’ve become a big Liverpool fan. It was a real honour meeting the guys (Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and King Kenny – Kenny Dalglish).

How exciting was it filming with them?

It was absolutely amazing. Meeting them was just phenomenal.

How did you get on with the rest of the cast?

Everybody got on so well during the filming of Will. We really were one big family.

How did you get into acting?

I was looking for a secondary school and, because I enjoyed acting, I looked at a Sylvia Young drama school, but I decided it wasn’t for me. But then they signed me into the agency and, two days later, I had an audition for Oliver in the West End. I got a part in that and did that for ten months, then I was pulled out of that to start filming Will.

Who would you most like to act with?

I’d love to act with Kristian Kiehling again, who plays Alek in the film, or Michael Caine.

What or who would you run away and travel across Europe for?

My six-year-old sister, Ruby, every time.

Will is in cinemas from 4 November.
