First News interviews Harry Judd from McFly

First News interviews Harry Judd from McFly

Harry Judd is wowing the judges and viewers on Strictly Come Dancing. We caught up with him to chat about it…

How are you finding Strictly?

I’m enjoying it! It’s quite full-on, but it’s going well so far.

Why did you want to take part in it?

I had never really considered it before, but after doing the Children In Need one, which went quite well and was fun, I thought I should do it.

How is Aliona as a dance partner?

She is a bit of a whip-cracker, but I like that. I want to do well and I want to work hard and know what I am doing on the night. You’re dancing in front of millions of people and I want to make sure I do as well as I possibly can.

What’s surprised you about learning to dance?

It’s hard work, but when you get the routine down and you actually dance, it is a lot of fun.

What do your band-mates think of the show?

They love it, they’ve been to watch. They’re nothing but supportive so I don’t think they’ll be giving me any stick about the costumes. You just have to embrace that part of it and have fun with it. I can’t see McFly wearing sequins and Lycra for any future music videos though!

Strictly is always popular with parents, so are your family excited about it?

Yes! My parents are very proud. My granny thinks I have officially made it. She rang my dad and told him I was a star now. I’m like, what about all the other things I’ve been doing for the past few years?!

Who are the ones to watch, in your opinion?

Holly and Chelsea, Anita, Jason – there are some very good dancers. I have a one in 14 chance!

You’re doing Strictly and Danny did Popstar to Operastar – which shows would you like to see Tom and Dougie on?

Good shout! I’d like to see Dougie on Dancing on Ice, ha ha ha! He recently said that I am the worst dancer in McFly, but I would put my life on that being a lie and that he is the worst. He can’t move. Tom did The Cube but that was only for a few hours.

What’s happening next for McFly?

The guys are starting to write some new material at the moment, whilst I am dancing away. Then we’ll be touring next year. It’s still all go – we’re just having a break while I am doing this.

Strictly Come Dancing is on BBC One on Saturdays at 6.25pm and Sundays at 7.25pm.
