First News interviews Disney's China Anne McClain
The A.N.T. Farm star spills the beans on acting, auditions and being the star of her very own Disney Channel show…
Are you having fun on your new Disney Channel show, A.N.T. Farm?
I’m having the time of my life on A.N.T. Farm. It’s awesome! The scripts are really funny and my cast mates are really cool. We’re having a blast.
How does it feel to be the star of your very own show?
It’s pretty cool. I’m very happy! I never imagined this would happen to me, but I’m really glad it has.
What went through your mind the first time you walked onto the set of A.N.T. Farm?
Thankfully, I knew most people on the cast by that point, but I was a little bit worried. I kept thinking to myself: “How am I going to play this character?”
How do you prepare for the show?
I usually get the script a day or two before we start shooting an episode and that’s when I try to learn my lines. Luckily, it’s pretty easy for me.
How would you describe A.N.T. Farm?
The show is all about fitting into school, so there are some fun lessons to learn along with the funny jokes and the silly things going on.
Did you always want to be an actress?
When I was little, I always thought I was going to become a singer. I’ve been singing for a long time and I’ve always enjoyed it. My dad is a music producer and my mother is a singer, so I thought I’d follow in their footsteps. Instead, I stumbled across acting.
How did you get into acting?
A few years ago, a friend of my dad’s came over to our house and told me about an audition for a movie. I went along to the audition, and five months later I got the part.
What do you love the most about acting?
My favourite thing about acting is the way that I get to work with so many amazing people. The cast on every set grows a close bond, so you always have somebody to talk to and you always have somebody to hang out with.
What’s the worst part of being an actor?
I guess working on emotional scenes is the worst part of acting. You have to pretend to be sad and down, but you don’t want to be blue.
Who is your acting hero?
I love Dakota Fanning. She is awesome! She’s the best actress in the world and my favourite movie starring her is War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise. She’s amazing in it.
What advice would you give to youngsters who want to follow in your footsteps and act?
If you’re really serious about acting, it’s important to train hard because practice makes perfect. At first, I didn’t like acting lessons, but then I realised how important they were. There’s always room to learn. Never forget that.
A.N.T. FARM airs on Disney Channel at 5:25pm every Friday from 7 October.
