First News interviews Big Time Rush

First News recently caught up with US boy band Big Time Rush, during their trip to the UK this week. We speak to the boys (well... Kendall and Logan) about their fans, their brand new movie and touring with One Direction.

We haven’t seen you guys since last year! What have you been up to since then?

Logan: What haven’t we been up to since then? We’ve been filming a movie in Vancouver in Canada. The movie’s called Big Time Movie. I can’t believe we have our very own movie coming out.

Kendall: I know! Wow! It’s awesome.

Logan: The movie’s like James Bond meets Austin Powers. It’s really funny. There’s lots of action and we had a great time shooting it.

Kendall: Best part of the whole thing was that we got to cover five Beatles songs.

Kendall: We’ve also been rehearsing for a tour in the US, which starts soon. One Direction are coming with us! And we’re promoting the new album, Elevate.

Tell us about Elevate.

Logan: Well, we wrote most of the CD. We each did tracks individually and we also wrote together on a few tracks.

Kendall: The thing I really like about it is that the first album was put together really, really quickly because the show came together with it at the same time. But with this one we spent a lot of time writing it. The album’s like a mixture of all our favourite musical styles.

Logan: It was cool, because for the last year we’ve done so much growing and learning as artists, so to be able to apply that and show the fans what we’ve been doing for the last year… yeah, it was really cool.

What’s the craziest fan story you can share with us?

Kendall: We had an experience in Mexico at an autograph signing that was pretty crazy. We didn’t really know how many people would show up and when we got there, there was like 10,000 kids in this tiny little square! And, you know, to be in a place like Mexico City, which is really far from our home, it was kind of shocking. That was a cool experience for me though.

Logan: One that I always think about was one in New York. We did like a last minute concert, tweeted out about it and told people we were going to be in the middle of Time Square. We just did an acoustic performance and everyone in New York like huddled around us; it was like a campfire session. That was cool.

You mentioned that One Direction are supporting you on tour. How did that come about?

Logan: We didn’t know a whole lot about One Direction before meeting them. There were a lot of ideas being thrown around about who would support us and I guess that was the one that stuck. We then met them and found out how cool they were. They’re cool guys.

Kendall: We were looking for someone who would be really great at opening up our concerts. I think we all have similar personalities and senses of humour – everything’s always a bit of a joke!

Logan: We’re going to get on so much trouble on that tour.

Kendall: Yeah… might be a problem!

Logan: I guess we’ll find out!

Do you have any home comforts that you have to take on the road with you when you’re on tour?

Logan: I think music’s my home comfort.

Kendall: That doesn’t count. You take music everywhere! Logan takes his boots with him.

Logan: Oh yeah, I take my boots! That’s my little piece of home.

You’re so busy at the moment! How do you keep everything balanced?

Kendall: You have to work hard and play hard. We try to have a lot of fun while we’re travelling, especially when we’re in such cool places like London. Everywhere we travel to, it’s different to being at home. We always make sure we have time to go out and experience the city.

Logan: You only live once.

Kendall: We always make sure that we have fun and laugh a lot. We can work like 14 hours a day as long as we keep laughing.
