High School Musical star, Ashley Tisdale, tells First News about her new spin-off film, Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, her favourite High School Musical memories and what she loves about being famous.

What’s Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure about?

This film takes place after Sharpay has graduated from high school in High School Musical 3. In this film she wants to follow her dreams and be on Broadway in New York. So, she makes a deal with her father that she’ll be the star of this Broadway show within a month of moving to New York, but it turns out that the casting guy just wanted her dog the whole time! The film’s a lot of fun and Sharpay definitely faces challenges in New York that she’s not used to, because she’s used to getting everything she wants.

How did you feel when you found out you’d be playing Sharpay again?

I was a little bit hesitant at first, because I’d done it three times before and so I wasn’t sure whether or not I should do it again. But to be honest, for me, I don’t think Sharpay had the right ending in High School Musical 3. She ended up staying behind and helping Miss Darbus in the theatre department and I just thought she belonged on Broadway. I just felt like I owed it to the fans to have a really great ending for her.

Sharpay gets to wear some pretty amazing clothes – did you get to keep any once filming wrapped?

Yes, I actually kept all of the clothes from the first High School Musical. They gave me the whole wardrobe!

Sharpay’s obviously a big dog lover. Are you an animal person? Do you have any pets?

I do, I have a tiny dog named Maui and then my parents have a dog and my sister has one too. We’re definitely a dog family.

High School Musical was such a worldwide phenomenon. What’s your best memory from making the films?

Oh my gosh! Everything that happened was just so crazy. Just the whole fact that we did the first movie and then it became so huge. We didn’t think it was going to be as big as it was. But, the times I remember the most, involve hanging out with five people I absolutely love and are my best friends. We got to travel the whole world together and it was just amazing. It was so cool.

What’s the best and worst thing about being in the spotlight?

The best thing has to be that I’m doing what I love to do. The worst thing is that it’s hard to please everybody at times and try to make everybody happy in this business. But there are definitely more positives than negatives. I can’t really complain about anything.

What roles do you see yourself playing in the future?

I don’t really have any specific roles in mind right now but I definitely want to do more comedies. I look up to comedy actresses like Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston. I’d love to work with one of them one day. That would be awesome.

Finally, if Sharpay had gone to the Royal Wedding, what would she have worn?

She’d have probably worn something really pink and made of rhinestones. She’d have had a really crazy hat too!
