First News chats to The Collective

A whole host of stars have joined forces to record this year’s Children in Need charity single, Teardrop. Led by the brilliant Gary Barlow and Tulisa, we found out more…

Gary Barlow

Why was it important to get these artists involved?

A lot of them are talking the language the kids Children In Need wants to target. I started work a while ago, but it’s been a nightmare to organise. But we got them all here!

Ed Sheeran

Did you say yes to this project straight away?

Pretty much, yes. There wasn’t much thinking to do. I looked at the line-up, saw that it was with all my friends and that it was for Children In Need, saw the song was Teardrop, which I love, and there was no dilly-dallying.

Tinchy Stryder

What do you do on the track?

Well, we didn’t write it, so the lyrics were done already, but there are so many strong statements in there. When you listen to it, it’s about togetherness. There are lot of things to relate to, and that you can be whatever you want.

Tulisa

Why did this project inspire you, and is it a great thing for urban music?

First of all, because it’s for such a great cause. Secondly, because I got to work with lots of artists I respect and admire. It just goes to show how far urban music has come in the UK. I really feel that N-Dubz helped open that door into the mainstream as we were the first UK urban act to really sell a lot of albums, and also the first to do an arena tour. It’s nice to think we made a difference.
