Being Green

Being Green

This year at The Topsham School everyone’s been busy helping us to ‘Green up our Grub’. By Lucy at The Topsham School, Devon

Every week we have been taking turns to go up to the farm, FSU and Years 1 and 2 in their planned play groups and Years 3 and 4 in the afternoon. The polytunnel is now bursting with tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergines, peppers, basil and yummy peas!

We have also been chopping up cucumbers and carrots and eating the peas for our snacks.

In the past few weeks we have been very busy making elderflower cordial using flowers from our school grounds. On Saturday we sold some of it and our crops from the garden at the St Margaret’s Church Summer Fair.

Last week we found out we had won the Appetite for Action competition. Some of us have even been filmed with cameras from Sky – they filmed me chopping up the cucumbers!

Topsham School entered Sky and Global Action Plan’s Appetite for Action competition. Pupils formed a Green Team and chose to work on the Greener Grub challenge from a choice of Get Growing and Reduce Rubbish. They won £3,000 and a visit from a Sky Real Lives Channel film crew.
