A KID'S WORLD: Zainab Bangura

“I have moved back home recently with my mother, brother and aunt after living on the streets for two years.”

“I met my mother again because Street Child of Sierra Leone helped me find her. I was afraid of seeing my mother again after so long because I knew she would have heard about what life is like on the streets. I did not think she would want me back because street life forces you to do bad things, like stealing, as you are so desperate for food.”

“A member of Street Child spoke to my mother for me and asked her if she would take me back. They gave her counselling so she could understand the difficulties I faced when I was homeless. They also came with me the first time we met. Street Child has helped us forgive and forget.”

“Now my mother says she is 100% happy to see me again. She is also grateful because Street Child will help fund my education, so now I can go to school.”

“I am happy that now I will be educated and able to support myself in the future. I would like to become a nurse.”

Street Child of Sierra Leone saves hundreds of street children across Sierra Leone each year. It provides counselling, clothing, medical care, food and a safe place, and unites children with a family member or guardian. It also funds the children’s return to education or training and offers ongoing financial support to their families.
