A Kid's World: Mohammed
Mohammed (centre of the picture) lived on the streets of Lunsar for three years. With the support of Street Child of Sierra Leone, he and his family are slowly building up their lives.
Mohammed had to live on the streets of Lunsar because his family were too poor to afford a uniform or books. Street Child found Mohammed and gave him school materials, a uniform and shoes. The charity also gave his family a small amount of money to set up a business which will fund Mohammed’s education in the future.
Mohammed says: “My parents are happy to have me home and so proud of what I have achieved. Street Child helps me talk through my problems before I come home. So, although I was ashamed about living on the streets, I feel fine now. I am so happy to be back with my four brothers and sisters. On the streets I used to steal to survive, but now I am studying for exams, and I am the top of my class! I hope to become a politician in Sierra Leone. People look at you differently when you live on the streets but, if I become a politician, I will take care of the street kids.”
