5 minutes with Jennette McCurdy

First News spoke to Jennette McCurdy from Best Player

Tell us about your film Best Player

It’s about two characters called Chris and Quincy who are both avid gamers.  They are obsessed with video games and really want to win this game called “Black Hole” because they want the big grand prize.  In their quest to win the game, they discover that real life may be even more rewarding than the virtual one they create.

What’s your character like?

Chris is a girl who is kind of edgy but still kind of shy and almost an outcast. In social situations, like her class and people of her age, she can feel a bit awkward.

What was it like to work with Jerry Trainor again?

I absolutely love Jerry. He is so nice and incredibly smart.  I was so happy when I found out about this film and that I’d get to work with him again.

Did anything funny happen on set?

At one point there was toilet paper all over my dressing room thanks to jokes on the set!

What's your favourite memory from the show iCarly?

All the birthdays I’ve shared with the iCarly cast and crew.  Everyone is very sweet and they sign my birthday cards with inside jokes and references only we would understand - special things that really cement the years that we’ve all spent together.

So are you a gamer in real life?

Yeah, absolutely! I haven’t had a lot of time to play video games lately because of my schedule, but I love them!

How’s your mum doing now because she was ill wasn't she?

Yeah, she’s doing okay. Thanks for asking, that’s really sweet.

What advice would you give to any kids in the same situation whose parents are ill?

Just to make sure you talk to each other – make sure there are open discussions. And just be there for them really.

You seem to spend a lot of time doing good work for good causes.

Yeah I really enjoy it – I enjoy giving back and helping others.
