Travel - Malaysia

Malaysia – 2010
Over the summer holidays, I went with my family on an amazing holiday to Malaysia – Langkawi. We had a plane journey which lasted 13 hours to Kuala Lumpur. Then we took a much smaller plane for 1 hour to Langkawi. Then we had a coach ride for 45 minutes to our hotel , The Andaman. Langkawi is a small island.
We stayed for two weeks at The Andaman Hotel, which is the furthest away form the airport, however it is a 5 star hotel. The hotel was very magnificent and had a beautiful reception. The staff were kind and were always helpful.
My father hired a car for the two weeks we would be staying for, so we drove around the island to many places. One of the places we went to was of course Shopping. They were many shops that we went to. We bought a range of things from clothes to gifts for family and friends back home. On the way we also stopped somewhere to eat. As we our muslims, Malaysia is a muslim country, therefore we did not have trouble finding food. This meant we could eat whatever we wanted. – we ate Mc Donalads, and KFC and most of the time we ate in this Indian restaurant for at least five times as we did miss mums Indian food.
We also went to one of the most exciting places, go – karting. My brother and my mum went first, they had to wear a special cap and then their helmet to protect their head. My brother went really fast, however my mum was rather slow. However they both really enjoyed themselves. My dad and I went in a double seater. We were also quite fast and this meant over taking everyone. I also enjoyed ko – karting very much.
Then the following day we went to the Under Water World. First we had our picture taken , then we got a chance to see all the different kinds of fishes, from clown fish to star fish. Then we saw sharks and penguins. Then we managed to get to see the otters being fed and also having their teeth brushed.
The next day we went to the Batik Factory, this was a long drive, however it was worth it. Here, we saw the lady desiging and printing the material and then she dyied it. Then we went next door to the glass blowing. Here we saw glass being blown into different shapes. I enjoyed watching this a lot and would not miss this opportunity.
Then we went to the crocodile farm, where we saw turtles as well as crocodiles. The crocodiles were so large and they were fast asleep, they didn’t even move a muscle. We then went to see the crocodile show, here the crocodiles were being fed fish. They opened their mouth wide ate the fish and shut it again very quickly. They they fell asleep again.
Apart from all the fun we had using a hired car, we also enjoyed staying in the hotel in the mornings when the weather was good. We went to the beach, the sand was a beautiful golden colour, the sand just slipped through my fingers. We sat on the sun beds and read a book and then eventually fell asleep. We could still here the waves in the background though.
As their was no watersports in our hotel , as they were environmentally friendly. We had to drive down to another hotel and do watersports. My dad and I went on the jet – ski. I was sitting infront, therefore I was driving and my dad was holding on the back tightly. First I was quite slow, then I saw my brother was standing up and going so fast trying to have a race with me. I just pushed my hand down on the gear and went so fast. My brother and I had a great time on the jet-ski. Then my dad and I went paragliding. I had done this four years ago, so I thought I would do it again. First we got strapped on to these seats with the parachute behind us, then we had to run really fast and then we were up in the sky. We could see all the little people and the other hotels nearby. As we came down we had to pull on the oranage tag and then we landed safely on the sand. I would recommend paragliding to anyone who hasn’t done it before because this was the best experience I have ever had.
We also went on the mangrove trip, here we sat in a boat and go to see the eagles being fed, then we were taken into the bat cave. Then we got a chance to see all the other types of birds like the kingfisher. Then we headed to a reasturant which was a ‘ floating restaurant’. Then we headed back.
I also had the opportunity to go horse riding. In the past I have been to horse ridding lessons so I knew what it would be like. The horse I rode was quite big, first it was scarry getting on. Then it was okay. I really enjoyed myself as the horse behaved itself.
I enjoyed myself a lot. This was one of the best holidays we have ever had. I would definitely recommend Malaysia – langkawi as a place to ‘ chill out’ and ‘relax’. There is also a lot to see and do.
