This fantastic book is by Michael Morpurgo and is about a boy named Patrick who jumps into a canal to save a sack of puppies. One of them he names Best Mate and the next day he gets to keep him. Best Mate grows up and is stolen for a greyhound racing kennels. There he meets fifteen-year-old Becky who hates her step-dad, Craig. He and another dog form a strong friendship, and he is named Brighteyes by Becky. Then suddenly, something happens which splits him and Alfie, his new best friend, apart. Then he and Becky run away together, and have to run around the city streets alone.
This is a fast-paced, extraordinary story tells of friendship and a dog's love for his master, no matter who that might be at the time. Sooo....

I read this book a few weeks ago it was really sad but stilll really enjoyable!
